HAIKOU, July 13. /TASS/. Online transactions in China's Hainan province in January-June 2021 rose by 16% year-on-year to 127.7 billion yuan (about $ 19.7 billion), reported the Hainan administration for commerce.Wholesale and business-to-business accounted for about two-thirds of Internet transactions. The remaining third was made up of retail sales of goods and services.
Online service trade saw significant growth, over six months the volume of such transactions amounted to 22.1 billion yuan (almost $ 3.4 billion), up by 49% over the same period last year.The highest consumer demand is recorded in food products, computers, electronics, telecommunications equipment and cosmetics.
Basically, Internet transactions on Hainan were conducted in large settlements of the region with a population of 10 million people. Thus, the administrative center of Hainan, Haikou, accounted for 68% of the total online sales, the resort city of Sanya — 15%, and the aerospace city of Wenchang — about 5%.
The share of retail sales in rural areas of the province accounted for about 5% of total online transactions. Hainan residents living outside the city bought 6.6 billion yuan (about $ 1.02 billion) of products and services online, up by 43% from the first half of 2020.
