Authorities in the southern Chinese province of Hainan plan to hold over 100 sporting events in the second half of this year. This was reported by the Xinhua News Agency.
Everyone will be able to take part in 75 of 108 competitions, according to the agency. The remaining 33 events can be attended by the public as spectators.
The authorities plan to hold a football tournament, as well as beach basketball and volleyball tournaments, an outdoor golf tournament for amateurs, a sailing regatta, sea fishing and diving competitions, a marathon and many others, the article said.
A beach sports carnival will be held on the island from late July to November as part of the program, the agency reports. A number of competitions will be organized on the beaches of Wanning, Wenchang, Danzhou, Sanya, Haikou and other cities in the province. The carnival will be aimed at developing not only sports, but also support for the catering industry and tourism in the province.
By 2025 the authorities have set a goal of turning Hainan into an "international center of tourism and consumption. The Chinese island is often called the "Oriental Hawaii" - twith their unique natural landscapes, thick rainforests and great climate will establish a developed network of hotels, which blend perfectly with white sandy beaches stretching along the coastline. The combination of an exotic subtropical nature and a modern eco-friendly infrastructure will boost tourist inflow to the island from the most distant parts of the world. In 2021, 81 million tourists visited the island, 25.5% more than the year before.
