SANYA, July 16. /TASS/. At least 160 new global brands will appear in a duty free shop in Hainan's Sanya in July, reported "Hainanwang".
The center opened its doors to visitors not so long ago — at the end of 2020. Since then, the range of products has been constantly expanding, to date, more than 700 world famous brands are already on sale there.
In June, the mall hosted official launches and sales of cosmetic products, as well as the opening of flagship stores for brands such as Lancaster and Gucci. Manufacturers of cosmetics, clothing, footwear, accessories and other products will be among the 160 new brands.
Haikou Customs Administration in early July reported that sales in Hainan's duty free shops for the year since the start of the new duty free program on the island amounted to 46.8 billion yuan (about $ 7.3 billion), an increase of 226% in annual terms. More than 6.28 million shoppers have visited duty free shops since July 1, 2020, up by 102% year-on-year.
A pilot program for the development of a chain of duty free stores in the Chinese province of Hainan was launched by the Chinese government in 2011. Since July 1, 2020 the provincial authorities have increased a personal quota from 30,000 to 100,000 yuan (from $ 4,200 to $ 14,200) for purchases in the province's duty free shops. The list of duty free goods has also been expanded from 38 to 45 positions.
